Letter: Again, left cold by SheSays contentBy Mike Martin from Enderlin, N.D.
Once again, I tried to enjoy and learn something from a Sunday Forum SheSays section. And once again, after wrestling with the Nov. 1 example, I was left cold.
Stories like, “Handbag designer credits 2008 failure with new success” and “Put crib sheet over a playpen for bug-free timeouts with baby” leave little doubt SheSays is a 1970s approach to address a gender niche market.
What puzzles me, with paid print circulation increasingly fickle – for all newspapers – why are hunters and fishermen ignored? Like it or not, The Forum has thousands of both as active subscribers, and there are thousands more in The Forum’s trade area who might buy a newspaper if there was predictable coverage of the great outdoors. Even the great bastion of political correctness, the Minneapolis Tribune, has a regular Outdoors section that celebrates what nature offers the Upper Midwest.
Shouldn’t a Forum hunter or fisherman have the opportunity to be reminded by artful and colorful stories that there is a wonderful world beyond the center-of-the-universe known as Fargo? Aren’t hunting and fishing sanctioned, promoted and controlled by government and are not only legal but healthy pursuits with more benefits than you can shake a stick at?
If a SheSays reader is appalled by their perception of glorifying blood sports, I suggest they handle it like I do when reading SheSays. Hold your breath, turn the pages quickly and reward yourself with Hagar the Horrible and Tundra.
